A Conversation with HealthStream and Skillsoft

The quality of patient care is greatly influenced by a healthcare organization’s ability to develop strong and effective leaders, at all levels and regardless of job title or function. Every healthcare staff member has an opportunity to serve as a leader. Transformational leadership in healthcare organizations can take a group’s patient satisfaction from satisfactory to exemplary.

A leadership team that recognizes this and invests in their staff members by providing them health equity education will positively impact how the organization approaches workforce development training. Supporting staff members at all levels means providing them the opportunity to ask themselves: “How can I further evolve in order to make a more meaningful impact on the environment around me?”

In this episode of A Conversation with HealthStream, Caroline Acree, director of product marketing for quality and compliance at HealthStream, talks with Mark Onisk, chief content officer of Skillsoft, a partner of HealthStream. During their conversation, they discussed how helping healthcare staff members with developing their “inner leader” can lead to improved organizational efficiency, team productivity, and patient care quality, as well as reduced costs. Key aspects of inner leader development are self-awareness, cultivating a positive and growth-oriented mindset, and choosing to lead with integrity and purpose from whatever position you hold.

“The reason that leadership capability is so important is because that is really what encourages people to stay within their job, stay within their role,” Onisk said. “Taking an interest in their team’s professional development, their career aspirations, coaching them, being thoughtful, taking an interest in them personally – a lot of that comes from leadership training because people aren’t necessarily born with those skills.”
