About the Customer
Benderson Family Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation is a non-profit, faith-based community that includes a 45-bed skilled nursing home.
Challenge
As a small, independent facility with no corporate support, the Benderson facility had been struggling to comply with increasing CMS regulations. They wanted to increase their Five Star Rating from two to five, while improving quality of care and other performance indicators effectively and efficiently.
Solution
They were interested in implementing HealthStream Quality Manager because it had several valuable features, including Facility Assessment, QAPI Plan, Mock Survey, and Investigations. Having utilized consultants for mock surveys and other support, HealthStream Quality Manager also offered a level of ease and guidance that was greatly needed, while reducing the cost of regulatory compliance.
Results
The ability to conduct their own mock surveys was not only effective for compliance, but also a great learning experience for everyone involved. Rigorous scoring is utilized in the mock surveys and investigations, leading to improvements in quality of care and performance, as well as positive feedback from the internal survey team. As a result, the facility’s Overall Star Rating increased from two to five in three years, including a deficiency-free survey in 2020.
